Smashing Pumpkins to celebrate 30 years of ‘Mellon Collie’ with North American tour

After decades of radio hits, iconic music videos, and influencing generations of fans, The Smashing Pumpkins have a lot to celebrate.

Following last year’s 30th anniversary of their landmark album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, they’re marking the occasion with a large North American tour this summer and fall.

This week the Pumpkins announced “The Rats in a Cage” tour, which is described to feature two unique sets “celebrating Mellon Collie at 30 and nearly four decades of unruly hits and dark treasures.”

The tour includes nearly 30 stops across the U.S. and Canada, kicking off with their Lollapalooza appearance in Chicago in July, along with a stop in Colorado on October 27!

The Smashing Pumpkins formed in Chicago in 1988, and debuted their first album in 1991. The band’s third studio album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (featuring singles such as “Bullet With Butterfly Wings,” “1979,” and “Tonight, Tonight”) debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 and became one of the most influential alternative rock works of the 90s.
