Our Fallen Hero

In Memory of Lou Mellini

On Monday June 5th 2023 the KILO family lost a great man, our long time VP, General Manager, and friend, Lou Mellini. To say no one will ever be able to fill his shoes is not an understatement. His excitement and endless supply of energy could not be matched. Not only celebrated for his work here at KILO, Lou gave most of his free time to numerous community projects and charitable causes in Colorado Springs. Even though he moved to, and fell in love with, Colorado in 1978 he would never leave his Brooklyn New York roots, New York attitude and New York accent. He began serving the KILO Nation in 1980 and retired to spend more time with his wife Laura, their sons Julian and Nick, and their grandchildren in 2017. Lou now joins other very missed family members “Big” Phil Lawless, Don Jantzen, as well as other KILO legends Rich Hawk, Gary Street, Art Phillips, Red Noise. Rest in peace Lou.
