Morten Harket, lead singer of legendary New Wave band a-ha, has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. At the time of his announcement, those closest to him were already aware of the diagnosis.  Despite a personal desire to share his diagnosis with the public, he stated he initially held off on announcing the information publicly because he didn’t know what the consequences would entail.

Harket revealed that he is receiving treatment through the Mayo Clinic in the United States, and that advanced brain surgery and medication are reducing the impact of his symptoms.  Harket continues to perform everyday tasks, like driving, but says that his singing will be greatly affected as the disease progresses.
