Florence Welch shares that she suffered a miscarriage in 2023

Florence Welch, lead singer of Florence + the Machine, shared that she suffered an ectopic pregnancy and miscarriage in 2023.
Just a year prior, the legendary British singer released the single “King,” a discussion with herself about whether to have a child. She and her partner decided to try for a baby soon after. They were successful on the first try.
The miscarriage happened early in the pregnancy; so early that Welch still hadn’t shared the news. Welch headlined a music festival a week after her miscarriage, unaware that it had been an ectopic pregnancy. Despite feeling quite sick before the show, the pain seemed to melt away as soon as she took the stage. The pain and discomfort soon returned, however, so her doctor told her to come in as soon as possible.
He discovered that, because of the ectopic pregnancy, her fallopian tube had ruptured, causing massive internal bleeding.

Welch cancelled a few shows in summer 2023 to get the necessary emergency surgery. She put out an announcement to her fans vaguely referencing a necessary procedure, but has only felt comfortable enough to share the details now.
The experience strongly influenced her latest album. She is quick to point out that modern medicine saved her, but that she found healing and awareness of her natural cycles and hormones with a “womb witch.” It was the womb witch who guided her through her grief. She also learned that many suspected witches were midwives, which prompted her to research witchcraft. The result is her latest album, Everybody Scream, set to be released on Samhain (October 31).
