Nirvana & Courtney Love in legal battle over trademark

Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic of Nirvana, Courtney Love, and Kurt Cobain’s daughter, Frances Bean, are all being called as witnesses to court over an ongoing legal battle with designer Marc Jacobs.  Jacobs has been using a smiley face similar to Nirvana’s iconic logo on shirts, sweaters, and socks for his “Bootleg Redux Grunge” collection.  According to Jacobs and his attorneys, Courtney Love and Frances Bean approved Jacobs’ impersonation of Cobain’s artwork.  Nirvana L.L.C. sued Jacobs last December for copying the Nirvana trademarked smiley face and, according to court documents, are owed over $1 million in damages by Jacobs.  Jacobs’ imitations have an ‘M’ and ‘J’ replacing the ‘X’ eyes on Nirvana’s logo.
